Guinea Fowl Feed, Medication & First Aid

High protein, medicated turkey starter with AMP is the best choice for Guinea fowl keets' first few weeks (usually 6 weeks) of life. The antibiotic is necessary to prevent several common diseases which often afflict Guinea keets. After the first few weeks of their lives, you can start to feed your Guinea fowl a diet with 20% protein chicken grower. At about 12 weeks, you can go to a 16% protein chicken layer feed. If your guinea fowl free range, and have access to bugs, you can reduce the amount of feed you provide for them. Be sure your Guinea fowl have access to some clean, quality grit to aid in their digestion and reduce problems. Also, providing a quality calcium source is highly recommended, especially during the laying seasons.

A broad spectrum antibiotic, such as Oxytetracycline HCI (a.k.a terramycine), is a good thing to have on hand when you raise Guinea fowl. This bag of granulated Oxytetracycline HCI is dissolved in water and then provided for ailing Guinea fowl in their water. If possible, separate ailing Guinea fowl from the flock. Start antibiotic treatments at the very first sign of disease or illness and maintain treatment for at least seven days.
